Killstreaks are one of the most important aspects of Modern Warfare 2, and the effective use of them can mean the difference between pwning your enemies and playing like a total noob. Setting up the best killstreak combo depends on what game type you are playing as well as what map you are on. While some killstreak rewards are great in almost in situation, like UAV Recon or Care Packages, many of the killstreak rewards are terrible in certain maps, and can be a complete waste of kills. Keep in mind this is purely based on my experience with killstreaks on Modern Warfare 2, and you are more than welcome to disagree with me!
KILLSTREAK REWARDS:
3 Kills – UAV Recon: This killstreak lets you see every player in the game on your radar screen unless they have Cold Blooded. Since this is the first killstreak reward you can equip, and at a measly 3 kills its easy to have up almost all the time. With the Hardline perk this killstreak reward is almost impossible not to have at all times. UAV Recon is great for team maps, since it helps out every player on your team and can especially awesome for Headquarters Pro. The main downside is that a lot of players prefer other killstreaks that directly kill people rather than assist like this one, but hey, be a team player!
4 Kills – Care Package: The Care Package killstreak lets you call down a supply crate with a random reward in it. This is kind of the wildcard of killstreak rewards, since you can get any reward out of the Care Package from Ammo to AC130. Ammo and UAVs are the most common reward, and can be pretty dissapointing, but theres nothing quite as awesome as getting an AC130 or Chopper Gunner from 4 kills! Not a bad killstreak reward, the main drawback is getting crap ammo or UAVs constantly instead of the better killstreaks.
4 Kills – Counter UAV Recon: This killstreak allows you to instantly jam an enemy UAV, which basically negates their killstreak for the entire duration. It also jams enemy radar, which is actually a huge advantage on team games, and can really turn things around if you are in a tough jam. Most players use radar a fair bit since not many people use Silenced weapons, so knocking this out can be pretty effective. One of the more underestimated killstreak rewards of the Modern Warfare 2.
5 Kills – Sentry Gun: Probably one of the more situation killstreaks of the game, this killstreak allows you to place a deadly turret to defend an area. The Sentry Gun absolutely destroys any players who wander in front of it, but can be easily killed by a knife to the back. The best way to use the Sentry Gun is by placing it inside the Headquarters in the Headquarters Pro gametype or using it to defend key areas in Domination or Capture the Flag. A pretty decent killstreak, but either does terrible or very good, really depends on the situation.
5 Kills – Predator Missile: Probably the most popular killstreak of the game, this lets you launch a missile from above and guide it down on players below. Since it’s pretty difficult to miss people with this, it is almost always a guaranteed kill, and alot of times even two. This means you can very often use this as the jumping point to the mid level killstreak. The main drawback is that it is a bit difficult to use in several maps, mainly Skidrow, Terminal, and Sub Base. The best way to use this is wait for enemy teams to spawn in HQ Pro or other team games and rack up awesome multi-kills.
6 Kills – Precision Airstrike: Call in a deadly airstrike on any target area on the map with this killstreak reward. Not a bad killstreak at all, but is sometimes hard to hit enemy players if you use it without seeing radar flashes. Alot of players tend to run for cover once they hear the jets, so a bit difficult to get multi-kills as well. Although this is decent, waiting one kill for the Harrier is much better, since you get a Precision Airstrike with it anyways.
7 Kills – Harrier Strike: Probably the next most popular killstreak after the Predator Missile, the Harrier Strike lets you call in Harriers that will bomb a target area then a single Harrier will hover over the target and shoot any players it sees. Since it is easy to get a kill right off the bat and another one or two with ease from the Harrier, this is the most used stepping stone to the high level killstreaks. The main disadvantage is that the Harrier is a bit weak, and is easy to shoot down since it does not move much from where you deploy it. Also keep in mind that the Harrier cannot shoot directly below itself, so don’t place right over a Flag or HQ.
7 Kills - Attack Helicopter: This killstreak lets you call in an Cobra Gunship that will actively hunt down and kill enemy players on the map. I actually prefer this to Harrier Strikes since it moves around, which makes it a lot better in maps like Skidrow or Terminal which render Harriers useless a lot of the time. The main drawback is that you don’t get the airstrike with it and since the helicopter moves around, it sometimes leaves the area you want it to defend or flies around in the abandoned areas of the map.
8 Kills – Emergency Airdrop: Basically the same as the Care Package killstreak except you get four supply crates instead of one. It sounds good in principle but the game always seems to give you at least a couple UAVs, Counter UAVs, or Ammo, which can be a pain in the ass. Another thing too is that enemy players can often steal a crate or two since it takes a bit of time to pick all of them up. The upside is it can really help your team, and if your lucky can give you a whole cartload of awesome killstreaks to lay down on the enemy.
9 Kills – Pave Low: The Pave Low killstreak gives you the ability to call in a heavily armored attack helicopter. This chopper acts similarly to the Attack Helicopter except it has a much stronger attack and armor. The Pave Low will also launch off flares if you shoot a rocket at it, though it will do this only once. Since this helicopter will move around the map and hunt targets, it can really be a lifesaver in team games. It also makes for a great killstreak to defend Headquarters and Domination control points. One of my more favorite killstreak rewards, the only real disadvantage is that it can be shot down by persistent enemies.
9 Kills – Stealth Bomber: This killstreak gives you the ability to call in a Stealth Bomber that carpet bombs a path right across the whole map. Sort of like the Precision Airstrike, except it bombs in a straight line, and is invisible on radar. That being said, it’s difficult not to hear this beast coming as it shakes half the map when it is called in. This killstreak suffers from the same advantages and drawbacks of the Precision Airstrike, and in the end is really all about timing. If you can call it in over a spawnpoint at the right time or over a HQ it can be especially devastating.
11 Kills – Chopper Gunner: One of the most powerful, if not THE most powerful killstreak in the game. The Chopper Gunner lets you control the turret in an Apache Gunship which slowly moves around the map. The gun fires non-stop which means you can literally mow down people as soon as they spawn, and the penetration through walls is actually pretty good as well. Probably the most balanced end killstreak for most players, good in basically every map except for Skidrow and Terminal.
11 Kills – AC130: The big daddy of killstreak rewards, this lets you remotely control the weapons on an AC130 Gunship. Unlike the Chopper Gunner, there are three different weapons you can use with this killstreak, a 25mm, 45mm, and 105mm guns. The best gun is by far the 105mm, but there is a long delay for reload, so the best strategy is to switch between the 105mm and 45mm weapons. Fire the 105mm then fire three shots of the 45mm and switch back, the 25mm cannon is pretty useless compared to the other two guns. Unfortunately the AC130 is pretty useless on the Skidrow or Terminal map, but almost all air support is.
15 Kills – EMP: The EMP or Electro Magnetic Pulse is kind of like a super Counter UAV, knocking out enemy Radar, HUD, and killstreaks. Since it lasts two minutes it can be pretty devastating on enemy teams, especially if they have a bunch of killstreaks in the air at the time. The EMP is a bit on the expensive side, considering you need a hefty 15 kills to use, and is therefor pretty rare in Modern Warfare 2. Most players prefer to use the AC130 or Chopper Gunner in place of the EMP, but it depends on your playstyle, plus the EMP is good on any map, which is a bonus.
25 Kills – Tactical Nuke: Well, not much to say about this killstreak, its a nuke! Once you get this you can immediately kill every enemy player and win the game, no matter what the score. Of course getting to 25 kills without dying is a bit of a chore, but if you setup your killstreak for the nuke its not totally out of reach. The rarest killstreak next to the EMP, nukes are hardly ever used, and for good reason.
BEST KILLSTREAK COMBO:
Best in my opinion is as follows, I almost always have this equipped unless im screwing around or grinding a title or something. This is a pretty generic setup, but most people use something along the lines of this because it is the most versatile and most effective.
Once you get 5 kills you can Predator at LEAST one other person, which makes it one easy kill to Attack Helicopter or Harrier which should set you up to AC130 or Chopper Gunner with ease.
5 Kills -Predator Missile
7 Kills – Harrier or Attack Helicoper
11 Kills – Chopper Gunner or AC130
